A simple way to set clear expectations with behaviours or performance

1. Get clear on what you expect
If you’re not clear on what you want from someone, you won’t be beable to communicate it.
2. Engage in the conversation
Be clear about what you expect or want to be completed, but also listen carefully to all concerns. It’s better to identify if you share the same understanding of what complete looks like early in the game.
3. Write them down
In some situations, it’s helpful to write down the agreed expectations or follow up with an email summary. Writing down expectations often leads to further clarity and serves as an objective reminder if performance or behaviours start to slip.
4. Check in
See how they are tracking against what they want. You can help course correct to ensure your expectations will ultimately be met.
